Gettin RIGHT!

Post by SlowBow on Tue Nov 06, 2012 12:12 pm

Should have been in a stand! 29 degree low, north winds, the rut coming on strong. Voted early, and have the day off!

The combination of my lack of a buck tag, and the wife shooting a deer last night that I need to quarter has me home this morning.

But it's getting right, gonna head out this afternoon looking for that second antlerless so I can earn my bonus buck tag and get back in the game! I HATE being on doe patrol during the rut!

Was 45 degrees here and it was 86 this weekend when I was able to hunt Mad. Rut usually doesn't kick in around here until the week of Thanksgiving which is good because I have that whole week off! Ready for some cold weather. I hunted in my double bull blind this weekend in a t-shirt and jeans still saw deer and the bucks are making scrapes just not the right time yet. Two more weeks and it will be right and I'll be out in my Web from daylight till dark!

So where you hunt you have to kill a doe before you can get a buck tag?

Congrats to your wife on the kill!

No doe first, but I shot the buck in my avatar in September, and we have to kill 2 antlerless to qualify to purchase a bonus buck tag. Killed a button last Thursday, need one more antlerless for that second tag.

Nice, hopefully you can smoke a doe and get another buck tag. Where I hunt in Oklahoma you can shoot 2 bucks and 4 doe with archery gear only, and the bucks have to be 15 inches wide on the public land I hunt. It has some really good mature bucks on it but they are smart as all old mature deer are.
