need help tuning a new bow

Post by Wolfshead on Sat Nov 17, 2012 3:07 pm

I am new to Traditional archery and I just received my new bow last evening.
It is from BamaBows and it is the Hunter model by Nate Steele
64" and it is 45# at 27" tillered for 3 finger under.

I would like to know how to tune it and get it ready.
Is there an order to tuning a new bow? for example, nock point first, brace height next, string silencers, etc....
I have really no idea what to expect and have no experience at this point with this subject. Any advice is readily excepted!
I will be shooting Douglas Fir arrows
Thanks in advance

Doug

Take a look at a&h archery site. Some real good tuning info.
Myself, I use bareshaft tuning, as well as paper tuning. The paper gets me close and bareshaft finishes it off for me. Good luck.

I have shot both traditional and compound bows, although only traditional lately, in my experience any bow will shoot good if you will take the time to match the arrow to it, I saw you have already choose the type of arrow you want to shoot. You do need to get the correct spine and length, 3 rivers archery has several bare shaft kits you can order, find the correct spine and cut the arrow down as needed till u

Congrats on the new bow. This is a very important process, is there anyone near you that is experienced shooting trad gear? It's so much easier in person, and you REALLY need someone WITH you to show you what to do.

I could talk you thru the process here on the forum, but it's really not the best way. Setting up a bow to shoot where you're naturally looking is critical. Geez, I sound like Rick Welch, lol. Smile
