Can you hunt with a trad bow in the rain?

Post by Backwaters Bowhunter on Sat Nov 23, 2013 11:43 pm

I know each bow is different but, could I hunt with my samick sage in the rain or would that hurt the bow? In the past I have hunted with my compound in the rain, I just don't want to mess up my recurve.

I think you'll be fine, didn't hurt mine when I did, I shoot a Bear, the feathers will look funny , but they still shoot ok if they are tuned to your bow

hmm, I didn't know we couldn't hunt in the rain..../?

make sure you wax your string properly and take a bandana, if itsa pourin' find a cedar or large tree to rest against. Deer dun't like heavy rain too much either, it affects their smell and hearing.

still hunt.......hope this helps...

For take down recurves - after a day of heavy rain - we take the bow apart and blow dry with a hair dryer. Thats after a downpour or after falling in - going overboard - hard day of stingray hunting - hard night of alligator hunting - situations like that.

For after a day of hunting in light rain for one piece bows we just put the bow in a dry area indoors - warm is good - air circulation is good.

Spots on a bow to watch are limb tips - and limb connection spots. Tips especially if these get worn will absorb moisture and blow out your limb tips - avoid standing bows up while strung. With a rubber limb tip protector you should be good.

Same here for a one piece. After a trip in the rain or a snotty day of stingray hunting I do the same- dry the bow and hang it the sun or use a fan to circulating air. Never an issue after several years of using these methods.

a coat of good car wax will help protect the finish on a bow. I use Mothers Canuba wax.
