Musta Missed the Rut

Post by hoyt on Mon Nov 25, 2013 1:43 pm

I hunt behind my place in Shawnee National Forest, Il. and hunt a lot until it gets too cold for me..blood thinners, and I've seen 2 little bitty bucks chasing two does on the same morning and that's it for the rut.

I killed this 8pt about first wk or so in Nov. and he was just ambling in nipping leaves at about 4:30pm. Used Big Foot T/D Recurve and Simmons Sharks broadheads...he dropped within 45yds in sight. Haven't seen a buck since..did have a doe and yrling under me Sat. morning gun season..but didn't shoot..didn't want to clean my flintlock.

Thanks..Hunted this afternoon and had a doe and two yrlings come in at 4:00pm..the doe spooked at about 12yds upwind..don't know why. Few minutes here comes about an 8pt browsing along and keeping his eyes in the direction the does and yrlings went.

He looked old..not real big, had a lot of white on his face and not much antlers..fair amount of mass no point length..reddish color with lots of bald tick rubs on his back. Just a tad to far for my recurve. He followed the does and yrlings.

Good sign though day after the 3 day gun season.
