Favorite terrain to look for on public land
Just curious what type of country do you hunt and what is your favorite type of terrain to look for? Mine is more mountainous and I look for a bowl or a flat ledge on a steep hillside that the deer like to cross.

I like to look for pinch points between bedding a feeding. Easier to find when I hunt the Midwest. When I hunt here in Louisiana in a big woods setting it takes more boots on the ground work to find these locations.

I'm kind of partial to swamps myself.

Here in the pineywoods I look for creeks and hardwoods. That is the big part of the puzzle, then their bedding nearby....

I look for super dense and thick areas for my morning hunts with the intent to beat the deer to there beds. I like to find an area where I can only see maybe 60 yards or so clearly. I figure if it's nice and thick then the deer will come there for protection, especially on public land. Then in the evenings I try to hunt somewhere on the downwind side of a really dense and thick area; preferably along a good trail or something like that.

l prefer the marsh/swamp areas that transition to thickets or oak knolls. In the mountainous regions its saddles that have a pinch point coming up from a laurel draw or a small oak bowl surrounded by laurel.
