Anybody still around here?

Post by bowonly on Tue Dec 12, 2017 10:28 am

Been checking in regularly the past couple weeks and haven't seen any new posts. Anybody doing any good out there? I'm leaving for a 9 day hunt in central Louisiana after work Wednesday. Pre rut should be kicking off, cool weather and approaching new moon....hope to see some action.

Well I guess your near the end of your hunt now. Hopefully it was a success. Haven't been able to get out like I wanted to this year. I did make it out to one of my spots a few weeks ago and had three doe walk by. It's a buck only WMA. Still had a good time though. Best of luck to everyone.

Weather changed on day 2 and stayed warm most of the trip. I managed to botch a shot at a doe at 18yds on the second to last hunt. Didn't see very much in the way of pre rut activity. Start planning for next trip. Leaving in mid January for a week to hunt an NWR in north LA. Counting the days.

I wish you success. Seams my season on public land ended yesterday. Tomorrow afternoon and Saturday will be spent at a friends property trying to thin out a few on his farm.

My final trip for the 2017/2018 hunting season will begin on Saturday 1/13 and end Saturday 1/20. The weather looks to be good and cold. Will be focusing on food sources on this piece of public NWR in north LA that have received relatively little pressure during the course of the season. It's a very large NWR(approx. 85,000 acres) so finding spots that have received light pressure shouldn't be that difficult if I do a little walking. Have seen pictures of some big bucks being killed the past week, as the rut is in full swing up there right now. I will miss the heavy chasing phase but hopefully I can key in on some cruising bucks looking for some does that came into estrus a little later.

In 6 days of hunting, I managed to see no deer. The area I had plans on hunting has been receiving an abnormally heavy amount of hunting pressure. Time to start planning for next year.
