New to Maryland

Post by JakeHaus on Sun Apr 15, 2012 4:53 pm

Hey Guys!

Just moved to the east coast from the midwest for grad school. My thesis research will focus on CWD in western MD. Any advice on some good public bowhunting ground around north east MD?

Welcome to the forum. I figure SlowBow will be along soon, to offer some advice. In the meantime, here's a link to public land I have listed for your area. I have done this for all 50 states. Enjoy the forum.

Welcome to Maryland. I'm in central Maryland myself, have not spent a great deal of time out in north east??, Harford County?

I've done a bit of hunting in Western Maryland, but the real good areas of the State are Central and Southern Maryland where the herd is larger.

Don't know exactly what you mean by north east, but the big Baltimore Reservoirs, Liberty, and Prettyboy (thats kind of North East) are bowhunting only, and do hold fair numbers of deer. Loch Raven was just opened a few years ago to bowhunting, to deal with overpopulation, if your looking to fill the freezer that would probably be a good bet.

I'm going to grad school in Newark DE but live in Elkton MD and plan to get a tag for Maryland. I have no issue driving a good distance to get away from the crowd and find some quality land. I'll be making a lot of trips to the western portion of the state anyway for my research so I wouldn't be opposed to doing some serious scouting in the central portion! Thanks for the advice!

Yeah, that is about as North East as you can get in Maryland.

This is out your way, the State just acquired this land, it's brand new this year, and is opening it to hunting, might be worth a scouting trip or two?
